Toronto, Canada - December 1, 2000 Partnership
for "Best Practice" Case/Absence Management Software:Medgate and Work Loss Data Institute Leading Occupational Health & Safety Information System developer integrates the Official Disability Guidelines (ODG) from Work Loss Data Institute with their Case Management solution. Safety
Information Management Systems has announced a partnership with Work Loss
Data Institute (WLDI) a preeminent, database publisher focused on
workplace health and productivity.
The objective of this partnership, the integration of both
company’s applications, creates a powerful “Best Practice”
Case/Absence Management software solution. Although
much has been done to improve workplace health and safety, the costs
associated with employee absenteeism continue to spiral.
It is generally acknowledged that the direct costs associated with
worker absenteeism typically exceed 10 percent of payroll while the
indirect costs i.e., wage replacement, training and reduced productivity
are estimated at 75 percent of the direct costs.
Healthcare professionals who refuse to accept the status quo
acknowledge that the only way to control these costs is to continuously
monitor the status of ill or injured employee with the objective of
returning them to productivity as quickly as possible.
The Medgate/ODG Case Management software system tracks the
status and progress of each case from initial contact through return to
work. It continuously updates
lost and restricted days and, by comparing
predicted to actual return to work dates,
demonstrates cost savings and
the effectiveness of treatment plans. Leslie
Glazerman, President of Medgate, comments, “We saw enormous benefit in
providing our customers with the ability to simultaneously access
disability duration information while using our software to document the
status of an employee’s absence. Integrating
the Work Loss Data Institute’s Official Disability Guidelines
with our Case Management system is like giving our clients on-demand
access to an expert consultant. It helps them make informed decisions about how long a sick
or injured employee should be off the job and supports best practice
intervention”. “From
our perspective”, notes Phil Denniston, President & CEO of Work Loss
Data Institute, “Medgate was a logical partner.
They have the technological infrastructure and expertise to present
our data in an engaging format and a sophisticated customer base who will
use it to validate treatment options and expedite return to work”. About
