New ACOEM Practice Guidelines Now Available on the Web

January 15, 2004 – The newly released second edition of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s (ACOEM) Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines is now available in an electronic subscriber version, to coincide with the hard cover release.  OEM Health Information, Inc. (OEM), having exclusive publishing rights to the ACOEM Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines, has selected Work Loss Data Institute (WLDI) to host the online interface of this updated reference text.

Curtis Vouwie, President and Publisher of OEM, explains, “The ACOEM Guidelines combine findings from the highest quality studies in treatment for work-related injury and illness with the experience and contributions of some of the most esteemed medical specialty experts of our day, creating a state-of-the art reference for managing common health problems and functional recovery in workers.  Now through both electronic and print media, we are able to expand its reach beyond ever before.”

Having worked as research contractor for ACOEM in this second edition, the selection of WLDI to host the electronic version was a natural progression.  Phil Denniston, President of WLDI, takes a great deal of pride in this partnership with OEM.  “Our mission at Work Loss Data Institute is to create, maintain and market information databases to implement standards for managing workforce productivity based on strict principles of evidence-based methodology.  As contractor to the revision process for these ACOEM Guidelines, I can attest that the level of research, commitment, expertise and discipline exhibited by members of the ACOEM Practice Guidelines Committee, chaired by Dr. Lee Glass, was second to none”.

WLDI and OEM Press are committed in their efforts to maintain and market delivery of the ACOEM Occupational Medicine Practice Guidelines in electronic and print form to further achieve ACOEM’s original goal: to improve the efficiency with which the diagnostic process is conducted, the specificity of each diagnostic test performed, and the effectiveness of each treatment in relieving symptoms and achieving a cure.
